Authenticity invokes emotion by association. Signifiers like characters, symbols, quotes, names or other aspects of previous works from which an audience can recognise and infer meaning confer authenticity.
Authenticity can also be cultural, a ‘one of us’ feeling, especially in the indie scene. Finally, authenticity and production values (high quality graphics, animations and sounds) are also closely linked.
