Roleplaying games are adventure games based on quests, combat and accumulation. They may involve a significant degree of activity (such as walking around or shooting) but are primarily economic games which resolve their conflicts based on comparisons of attributes rather than physical skill.
Their history began with pen and paper roleplaying games like Dungeons and Dragons, but the modern roleplaying game is a global phenomenon. Massive multiplayer and social games are commonly roleplaying games, as are big releases from studios like Bethesda and Bioshock.
