Catharsis is a form of joy experienced through some games when a long-standing pressure is finally released. It is similar to the joy of fun in that winning is usually a part of the experience.
Catharsis can be personal, such as a feeling of fiero when overcoming a long-held challenge. Alternatively it can be particpatory, such as the joy felt by fans when their team wins its league for the first time in 40 years.
