Exposition is a visual writing technique in which a character dictates her feelings in order to explain them to the audience. It is generally considered bad writing in most forms of drama (the significant exception being theatre), and yet is rife in videogames. The reason is game writers, directors and designers who believe their job is to develop characters in the manner of Hollywood films, but that kind of character development is completely unnecessary in games.
