Mid-game is a fuzzy term to describe the passage of play in the middle of a game. The mid-game is the part after the beginning and before the climax at the end, when the game's dynamic really shows its worth or not. Games whose mid-games are poor are often disappointing experiences, full of promise but ultimately proving to lack strategic or tactical depth.
The mid-game is preceded by the opening and followed by the end-game.
